The Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) announces the
first webinar in the Spring 2013 Career Development Webinar Series,
scheduled for Wednesday, 13 February 2013 at 6:00 p.m. GMT. For
information about alternate time zones, please see:
http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html.

This week's webinar is entitled “Navigating Language Barriers in the
Polar Research World.” It will be presented by Jose Xavier from the
Institute of Marine Research, University of Coimbra and the British
Antarctic Survey. Between papers, proposals, and presentations, being a
non-native English speaker in the polar research world can present many
challenges. Xavier will discuss his experiences and the lessons he has
learned in communication in order to become a successful researcher.
This webinar should be most useful for early career polar researchers
looking for tips to improve their research communication skills when
English is not the language they are used to working in.

TO ATTEND THE WEBINAR
To attend a webinar a
computer or smartphone and an internet connection
are needed. A headset
or headphones and a built-in microphone are
recommended but not
required. Webcams and telephones will not be used in
the presentations
and are not needed to participate.

This webinar series is possible due to the support of the High North
Academy, and GoToWebinar has been provided as an in-kind contribution
from Bredbandsfylket.
