ARCTIC CENTRE
The Arctic Centre is an international multidisciplinary institute
affiliated with the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi, Finland. The
Centre's mission is to increase understanding of the disturbances human
activity causes in cultural and natural environments of the Arctic and the
multi-dimensional instruments of environmental policy and management with
which the problems can be solved. The Arctic Centre is now looking to fill
the position of
SENIOR SCIENTIST IN NORTHERN CULTURES, PARTICULARLY SAMI CULTURE (12.220 -
15.592 FIM per month depending on experience)
Duties: to propose and conduct advanced independent research in northern
cultures, particularly the Sami culture, and their interaction with the
natural environment; to teach and advise post-graduate and Arctic Studies
Program students in issues relating to northern cultures (minimum teaching
load 24 lecture hours per academic year); to participate actively in
innovative dissemination of scientific results at the Arctic Centre's
Science Centre, the Arktikum. Qualifications: doctoral degree in
humanities or social sciences, with an emphasis on northern cultures;
proven experience and interest in dialogue with environmental scientists,
and in communications with policy makers and the general public; proven
capacity for attracting external research funding and managing research
projects independently; research experience in northern regions,
particularly the Barents Euro-Arctic Region; very good English skills,
Sami and Finnish skills desirable, a Scandinavian language an asset. The
appointment is for an initial period of five years. Applications,
