Dear Colleague Letter
Change of Leadership for NSF Arctic Sciences

6 August 2014

Directorate for Geosciences
Division of Polar Programs
National Science Foundation

Dear Colleagues,

I'm writing to let you know about a change of leadership that is
underway for the Arctic Sciences Section in the Division of Polar
Programs. Mr. Simon Stephenson recently started a one-year detail as
Assistant Director for Polar Sciences in the Environment and Energy
Division at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy
(OSTP). Amongst other duties in his new role, Simon will serve as the
Executive Director to the Interagency Arctic Research Policy Committee
(IARPC). We look forward to working with Simon on a range of polar
science and policy issues in his new capacity.

Plans are already in the works to bring in a replacement to serve as
Section Head for Arctic Sciences, and I hope to make an announcement
soon. In the interim, other members of the Division's senior staff are
working with Program Officers in the Arctic Sciences Section to ensure
uninterrupted operations. So please continue to work with your Program
Officer for routine inquiries, and contact me, or senior staff acting
for me, for other inquiries.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kelly K. Falkner
Director, Division of Polar Programs
