Community and Citizen Science in the Far North Presenter Instructions

General Presentation Format and Guidelines

The Community and Citizen Science in the Far North conference will have both live and pre-recorded presentations. All live presentations (keynote, plenary, lightning, and panel) will be in plenary, live-streamed, and recorded. Recordings will be archived on the conference webpage following the meeting. During the conference, participants will view presentations on Zoom—where questions may be asked via audio and chat—and via YouTube live stream (unlisted link; comments not enabled). All presentations should address a broad, transdisciplinary audience that will include researchers, community members, educators, and students. You may view all registered participants on the conference webpage Attendees tab. Presentation files will be shared in PDF format via the conference webpage following the meeting. If you do not wish to have your slides shared, please let us know at accs [at] arcus.org. Links to pre-recorded presentations will be made available to all registered attendees by no later than Monday, 4 October 2021.

All speakers are encouraged to use the Intro/Outro PowerPoint template slides provided here:

Presentation Slides and Files

All speakers who wish to use slides in their presentation must upload their presentation file (PPT or PDF) or pre-recorded video (.mov or .mp4) by 12:00 p.m. Alaska Time on Monday, 27 September. Upload instructions will be provided to all presenters via email. If you encounter any difficulties or require a different file type, please contact accs [at] arcus.org.

Plenary (15-minute) Presenter Instructions

You will have 15 minutes total for your presentation. We recommend limiting your speaking time to 10-12 minutes to allow time for questions from the audience. All speakers are encouraged to use the Intro/Outro PowerPoint template slides provided on our webpage and in the FTP folder. Please contact us at accs [at] arcus.org with any questions or concerns.

Lightning Talk Presenter Instructions

Lightning talks will be a maximum of three minutes. A shared Q&A time will be provided for all lightning presentation speakers at the end of each theme’s lightning round. All speakers are encouraged to use the Intro/Outro PowerPoint template slides provided on our webpage and in the FTP folder. Please contact us at accs [at] arcus.org with any questions or concerns.

Pre-recorded Presenter Instructions

Your pre-recorded presentation should be a maximum length of 15 minutes and have a maximum file size of 650 MB. You may create your presentation using a Zoom recording to incorporate slides, or a video camera. We are able to accommodate .mp4 and .mov file types. Your presentation will be hosted on the ARCUS YouTube Channel as an unlisted video (i.e., not searchable by the public) and will be made available to conference participants no later than Monday, 4 October, before the conference begins. Your presentation will be listed on the agenda and links will be provided to registered participants via email. On YouTube, comments will be enabled and organizers will share any comments on your presentation with you. You may also respond to comments directly via YouTube comments. All speakers are encouraged to use the Intro/Outro PowerPoint template slides provided on the website and in the FTP folder. Please contact us at accs [at] arcus.org with any questions.

Keynote Presenter Instructions

You will have 30 minutes total for your keynote presentation. We recommend limiting your speaking time to 25 minutes to allow time for questions from the audience. A video recording of your presentation will be archived and made available following the conference, along with a PDF document of your presentation slides. All speakers are encouraged to use the Intro/Outro PowerPoint template slides provided on our webpage or in the FTP folder. Please contact us at accs [at] arcus.org with any questions or concerns.

Panel Presenter Instructions

Panels will have a maximum of 45 minutes. We suggest leaving a minimum of 15 minutes for questions. Slides are not required, and panels may choose to focus on video of speakers rather than the use of slides, or a mix. ARCUS staff will work with panel leads directly to determine each panel’s specific needs for moderation and tech support. Please contact us at accs [at] arcus.org with any questions.
