AK CASC Internship Opportunity: Alaska Fellows Program
The Alaska CASC is excited to announce an opportunity to join the Alaska Tribal Resilience Learning Network team through the Alaska Fellows Program‘s inaugural Fairbanks cohort.
The Alaska Fellows Program (AFP) is a fall-to-spring residential fellowship program that nurtures the next generation of Alaska-based leaders by pairing talented young people with strong communities and professional mentors.
Fellows in the first Fairbanks cohort will live in the Sustainable Village, an innovative community that supports real-time energy research. Fellows will work with host organizations at the frontlines of positive change in Alaska, connect with a broad network of community supporters, and become part of a broader AFP community that includes fellows in Sitka, Anchorage, and Juneau.
The Alaska Tribal Resilience Learning Network (AK TRLN) is a system of support focused on learning, sharing, technical assistance and training for Alaska Tribes, leadership, and Indigenous communities as they respond and adapt to the current and future impacts of climate change. The AK TRLN is designed for Alaska Tribes and Indigenous communities that are working towards their climate adaptation priorities, especially those that have received the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Tribal Resilience Program funding.
The AK Tribal Resilience Learning Network Fellow will join the learning network as a team member and assist in strengthening support for Alaska tribes addressing climate impacts through proactive adaptation planning. Specific duties may vary depending on the strengths and interests of the applicant.
Potential areas of focus
- Research, survey and summarize the long-term needs related to climate change planning support among Alaska Native regional organizations and/or tribes.
- Develop a Tribal climate adaptation menu that highlights specific adaptation strategies and traditional knowledge practices.
- Build upon a co-production framework to assist in creating a tribal engagement strategy.
- Support the development and delivery of climate adaptation training and curriculum that supports the climate adaptation priorities and needs of AK TRLN participants.
- Support partnerships among organizations, tribes, non-profits, students, and individuals that foster greater connectivity among Learning Network members and the broader climate adaptation community of practice.
Position Logistics
The Fellow will work approximately 40 hours per week with office accommodations at the International Arctic Research Center on the campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. The fellow will report to Malinda Chase, AK CASC Tribal Liaison.
Program dates: Fall 2021 – Spring 2022
