Executive Director of the Arctic Research Consortium of the United States

The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS; arcus.org) strives to increase opportunities for collaboration across the broad Arctic research community of the U.S. through the goals of networking, communication, education, and research community support and facilitation. ARCUS seeks an Executive Director to continue this important work under a new Cooperative Agreement with the National Science Foundation.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Leadership and advocacy for the overall organization
  • Management of existing programs and initiatives
  • Financial oversight in support of day to day operations; strengthening and diversifying funding sources
  • Administration and supervision of nationally dispersed staff in support of ARCUS operations, programs, and initiatives
  • Support for Board of Directors activities to enable proactive and responsible governance
  • Oversight of strategic planning efforts to ensure that ARCUS remains responsive to the research community it serves

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a leadership role for a research advocacy organization, preferably with an Arctic focus
  • Experience designing and implementing annual and project budgets for a non-profit organization
  • Experience working with National Science Foundation Cooperative Agreements
  • Experience conducting strategic planning for an organization with an active membership comprised of individuals and institutions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills that would enable management of a dispersed staff of >10 people
  • High degree of familiarity with the Arctic research community in the U.S.

Preferably, the candidate will:

  • Be located in Alaska
  • Be familiar with ARCUS' history, programs, and mission
  • Be process-oriented and able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
