The poster abstract submission period is now closed.
Poster sessions will be held during each day of the conference as an integral part of the agenda and expansion of the plenary sessions.
Poster Themes and Topics
Posters will offer opportunities to provide specific information relevant to the main themes of the conference. The five final poster themes are:
- Information Needs
- Policy Initiatives, Activities, and Methods
- The Arctic Environment
- Toward Successful Collaboration
- Sharing Information
Additionally, there are smaller, more focused poster presentations from the Study of Environmental Arctic Change (SEARCH), including: Arctic Answers, the SEARCH Scenarios Project, and photographic displays from the Indigenous Participation Working Group.

Poster Guidelines
Poster Format
Posters must convey information to conference participants with diverse backgrounds. As such, they should concisely describe main ideas in broadly accessible language. We strongly encourage using the below “big-idea” template, which focuses on a single big idea presented with no jargon, minimal text, and graphics that communicate and reinforce the main message. Thank you to Twila Moon and Marika Holland for use of this template.
Posters must fit within an area 36 inches wide by 48 inches tall.
Authors of accepted posters will be strongly encouraged to also submit a poster file (PDF or PowerPoint), which will be posted online after the conference as part of the conference proceedings. Instructions for uploading final poster files have been sent to poster presenters directly.
Printing Your Poster
It will not be possible to print posters on-site at the National Academies of Sciences. Poster authors will need to bring their printed posters with them to the conference. The nearest commercial printing facility to the conference venue is located in the FedEx Office at the JW Marriott located at 1331 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC 20004.
When and Where to Hang Your Poster
Conference participants are invited to pre-register/check-in for the conference on Tuesday, 3 September from 1:00–6:00 p.m. at the National Academy of Sciences Building located at 2101 Constitution Avenue, NW in Washington, DC 20418. Please enter the building via the main Constitution Avenue entrance and bring a government-issued photo ID for building security. Poster presenters are welcome to hang their posters at this time. Posters may also be hung after registration/check-in on the morning of Wednesday, 4 September, by no later than 11:00 a.m. Push pins for hanging your poster will be provided.
All posters will need to be removed by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, 6 September.
Important Dates
20 May 2019 (11:59pm submitter's local time): Deadline for abstract submission
17 June 2019: Notifications of acceptance sent to authors
3 September 2019: Poster presenters are welcome to pre-register/check-in for the Arctic Futures 2050 Conference and hang their posters at the National Academies of Sciences building from 1-5pm.
