Lake Description:
Moose and Twin lakes, south-central Alaska. These are ~30 km apart in an area with dendroclimate records (e.g., Wiles et al. 2002, Davi et al. 2003; www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/fac/trl). Preliminary results show exceptionally high sedimentation rates. Magnetic susceptibility (MS) and preliminary 14C dates reveal pronounced environmental changes likely related to the LIA. Cores from both lakes will be analyzed for chironomids and pollen.
