Lake Description:
Omega and Takahula lakes, Brooks Range, Alaska. These are located ~100 km apart for comparison with each other as well as with instrumental weather data and regional tree-ring-based temperature estimates (e.g., Jacoby et al. 1996; www.ldeo.columbia.edu/res/fac/trl). Omega Lake contains carbonate sediment; preliminary δ18O results show strong correlation with MAAT for the past 50 yr. Downcore isotopic and chironomid analyses at coarse resolution show pronounced fluctuations during the last 2000 yr. We will analyze isotopes and chironomids at Omega Lake and isotopes at Takahula Lake at decadal to multi-decadal resolution. Cores from both lakes will also be analyzed for pollen at multi-decadal resolution to provide a regional context.
