Lake Description:

CF3 and Amoeba lakes, north-central Baffin Island. These coastal lakes are sensitive to changes in the relative magnitude of North Atlantic and Arctic waters that mix in Baffin Bay. Holocene sedimentation rates are among the highest for non-glacial lakes on Baffin Island, and the sediment exhibits exceptionally little bioturbation (Wolfe et al., in press). Relatively low-resolution analyses show dramatic changes in OC and chironomid assemblages (Briner et al., 2004). Chironomid taxonomy will provide summer temperature estimates, bolstered by diatom assemblage data, in a region where extensive work has been completed on training sets for both chironomids and diatoms (Walker et al., 1997; Joynt and Wolfe, 2001; Francis, unpubl. data).
