ARCSS 2 kyr Project: A synthesis of the last 2000 years of climatic variability from Arctic lakes
Information for Greyling Lake
Proxy Information
Lake Description:
Cascade and Greyling lakes, south Alaska. These are glacial-fed with laminated sediment located near productive, non-glacial lakes where on-going work by Hu and others will estimate Holocene summer temperature based on δ18O in diatoms and chironomid assemblages at ~200 yr resoution. Wiles et al. (1999, 2002) have a regional dendroclimate record against which to compare lamination characteristics. Climate at these sites is sensitive to the strength and position of the Aleutian low. We will analyze lamination characteristics and δ18O in diatoms to compare with other sedimentologic indicators of glacier activity.
