ARCSS 2 kyr Project: A synthesis of the last 2000 years of climatic variability from Arctic lakes
Information for Cape Hurd Lake
Proxy Information
Lake Description:
Cape Hurd Lake, Devon Is, and Depot Point Lake, Cornwallis Is. Cape Hurd Lake is an isolated marine inlet at sea level with anoxic bottom water and a plateau ice cap in its watershed. Putnam (2004) produced a detailed reconstruction of the last 600 yr using varve thickness, LOI, and BSi from surface cores. A longer vibracore (5.6 m) contains laminated sediments interbedded with massive marine units extending ~8000 yr (Saenger, 2002). Depot Point Lake is a nival-fed isolation basin with laminated couplets extending to ~3500 yr (Haas, 2003). Detailed analysis of structure and composition of the laminated sequences will be conducted at both lakes.
