The Role of Annular Modes in the
Coupled Climate System

Abstract
Our work encompasses four objectives.
* Explore the potential for seasonal to interannual climate predictability based on annular-mode values in the troposphere and stratosphere.
* Investigate the Arctic Oscillation and stratospheric circulation anomalies for their role in sea-ice motion and as precursors to changes in sea-ice extent and SSTs.
* Explore the linkages between high- and low-latitude climate through the Arctic Oscillation, including surface pressure, temperature, winds, and SSTs.
* Examine decadal variability in terms of annular modes.
