The AON Design and Implementation (ADI) effort provides guidance to the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), the scientific community, and others engaged in arctic environmental observations on how to achieve a well-designed, effective, and robust Arctic Observing System.

ADI activities are overseen by an ADI Task Force and include a combination of virtual and in-person meetings, two workshops, and a small array of proof-of-concept studies.

The ADI effort will culminate in a final report with recommendations for the next steps in optimizing, coordinating, and enhancing the existing components of an international arctic environmental observing system, with emphasis on the U.S. AON.

A small Task Force writing meeting is planned for late June 2012, and the final report is expected to be completed in early fall 2012. A community survey was conducted that will be incorporated into the final report recommendations.
