Dr. David Robinson is currently the Chairman of the Department of Geography at Rutgers University in New Jersey. He is also the New Jersey State Climatologist. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania and a Master’s degree and Ph.D. from Columbia University. Robinson has been a member of the Rutgers faculty since 1988, and teaches courses in physical geography, remote sensing, climate dynamics, and an interdisciplinary course dealing with global and regional climate change.

Robinson’s primary research interests are in climate and climate change; in particular, hemispheric snow cover kinematics and dynamics, state and regional issues, and the collection and archiving of accurate climatic data. He has published over 125 research articles, and currently receives research support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Robinson has sat on several National Research Council panels and has chaired the American Meteorological Society Polar Meteorology and Oceanography Committee and the Association of American Geographers Climate Specialty Group. He currently sits on the advisory panel of the NOAA Office of Global Change's Climate Change Data and Detection element and is a key contributor to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

He has extensive lecture experience having given over 100 talks to groups ranging from ten to several hundred. These include professional and public audiences. He is interested in speaking to school audiences (K–12), academic audiences, graduate seminars, and the general public. Some representative lecture titles include:

Robinson is interested in the program as an opportunity to share information and ideas with colleagues and other interested individuals. He looks forward to speaking to various audiences and spending time with individuals or groups of researchers.
