My research interests focus on understanding the role of sea ice related ecosystems in a changing world. Providing knowledge to the public is an important charge for any Arctic scientist.
I like to share my fascination and experiences in the
Arctic and Antarctic with the public. It always seems
like a miracle, that organisms have evolved to live
under conditions that are hostile for most human
beings.
We have learned over the last decades that sea ice
plays a significant role in the polar marine food
webs. Today we observe many changes in the Arctic
environment.
Over the last 14 years, Dr. Gradinger has given
presentations related to polar marine biology at
universities, schools and to the general public. Dr.
Gradinger is interested in speaking to all potential
audiences in the Arctic Visiting Speaker Series. His
availability is limited during spring and summer as
he is frequently occupied with field sampling
programs.
His lecture titles include:
- Life in the crystal palace: The hidden biota of Arctic sea ice.
- Changes in the Arctic: a challenge for marine biologists.
- Expeditions into the cold waters of the Arctic and Antarctic
- A comparison of marine biology of the Arctic and Antarctic.
