Arcady Putilov
About:
Arcady Putilov has been Doctor of Science, Animal and Human Physiology at the Institute for Medical and Biological Cybernetics, and Institute for General Pathology and Human Ecology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences since 1995. From 1976-1995 he was affiliated with the Institute of Physiology of the Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Medical Sciences and from 1995-1999 with the International Scientific Center ARKTIKA (Far-East Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, Magadan, and the University of Alaska, Anchorage).
Putilov's research interests are in rhythmic processes in physiology, zoology, psychology and psychiatry, particularly related to circadian (daily) timing. His major research interest in the last several years has been chronophysiological mechanisms of several disorders, particularly seasonal affective disorder (SAD). He has more than 14 publications in English on human studies of SAD, including investigations on sleep homeostasis, circadian rhythm regulation, metabolism, and individual differences in chronotypes. He has also studied animal rhythms (in beetles and vertebrates: fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, small mammals of many different species) and has experience with modeling of biological timing.
Putilov is a member of several professional societies, including the Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms, the European Society for Chronobiology, and the European Sleep Research Society, and has served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Cycle Research and Biological Rhythm Research. He has been an active participant in the Alaska-Siberia Medical Exchange Program.
Putilov has long-term experience in giving lectures for academic, student and lay audiences. He is interested in speaking to all types of audiences through the Visiting Speakers Series.
