The Climate Impacts Research Center (CIRC) at Umea University seeks
candidates for an assistant professorship in arctic ecosystem science.
The position is for four years and is based in Abisko, Sweden.

The successful candidate will carry out research in the area of ecology
or biogeochemistry of subarctic and/or arctic ecosystems. Research
directed towards terrestrial and/or freshwater systems is welcome.
Candidates who address climate impacts on ecological and biogeochemical
patterns and processes at whole-ecosystem scale, across terrestrial and
aquatic ecosystems, or at catchment or higher levels are of particular
interest as is research that is linked with ongoing research at CIRC.
Research approaches combining different types of field studies, such as
using natural gradients or experimental manipulations, with modeling and
up-scaling techniques are also welcome.

The successful candidate for the assistant professorship should hold a
doctoral degree or equivalent, preferably obtained less than seven years
prior to the application deadline. Candidates are expected to have an
excellent knowledge in the field of ecology, biogeochemistry, or related
field and preferably also post-doctoral and teaching experience.
Candidates must have a record of publication in high-quality
international journals that demonstrate their suitability for the
position.

The University of Akureyri seeks candidates for a visiting professorship
position in arctic studies. The position, referred to as the Nansen
Professorship in Arctic Studies, is awarded each year for a twelve-month
period. The formal period of employment starts 1 September 2015, with
exact timing subject to negotiations. The position is based in Akureyri,
Iceland.

The University seeks candidates interested in contributing a year to
focus their research effort on issues that bear on the legal, economic,
social, and natural circumstances in the Arctic. A successful candidate
should currently hold an academic position (assistant, associate, or
full professor) and have a strong academic background in studies
relevant to sustainable human development in the Arctic regions and/or
climate change issues in the Arctic. The candidate should be experienced
in working across disciplines with complex human-environmental-social
issues and should have strong communicative and social/interpersonal
skills. Research experience relating to the Arctic and a track record of
participation in international research networks will be necessary.
Applicants can apply for a full academic year or one semester.
