National Science Foundation

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Sonya Lyatsky as
Assistant Program Director for the Antarctic Astrophysics and Geospace
Sciences Program in the Antarctic Sciences Section of the Division of
Polar Programs. Dr. Lyatsky was a Polar Postdoctoral Fellow in 2012-2014
and developed a numerical model of interhemispheric field-aligned
currents to examine their effects on global geomagnetic activity and
ionospheric convection in the polar regions in both hemispheres.

Prior to her NSF/PLR postdoc experience Dr. Lyatsky was an Adjunct
Faculty member in Mathematics at Howard Community College in Columbia,
Maryland and a technician supporting the Physics Department at the
University of Maryland in College Park. Dr. Lyatsky holds a M.S. in
Computer Science and PhD in Applied Physics from the Alabama A&M
University in Huntsville. She has authored over 10 papers on geospace
research published in peer-reviewed journals.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Sonya Lyatsky to the Division of Polar
Programs and the GEO team.
