The Data Management section of the web site is
under construction.
In the meantime here are some useful links:

The
World Data Center System
The World Data Centers (WDCs) were established in 1957 to provide
archives for the data gathered during the International Geophysical
Year (IGY). WDCs now operate under the auspices of the International
Council for Science (ICSU) for the benefit of the international
scientific community and provide a mechanism for international exchange
of data. WDCs exchange data freely among themselves, while provision
of WDC data to an individual scientist or institution normally requires
a charge to cover the costs of duplication and handling.
Each WDC archives data for one of 32 specific research disciplines.
A listing of the centers, by discipline, with contact information
and web page addresses can be found here,
in the WDC web site. The site also provides a thorough system
guide, available in HTML, MS Word, and PDF formats.

The web site of the U.S. National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) provides many
links to data resources. Those relating to the Arctic can be found
on NOAA's Arctic
Theme Page.
In the "Science" menu, choose links for Data
and Data
Centers.

Established by NOAA as a national information and referral center
in support of polar and cryospheric research, NSIDC
archives and distributes digital and analog snow and ice data. NSIDC
also maintains information about snow cover, avalanches, glaciers,
ice sheets, freshwater ice, sea ice, ground ice, permafrost, atmospheric
ice, paleoglaciology, and ice cores.
- NSIDC is part of the
University of Colorado Cooperative Institute for Research
in Environmental Sciences, (CIRES)and
is affiliated with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
(NOAA) National
Geophysical Data Center (NGDC)
through a cooperative agreement.
- NSIDC also supports the National Science Foundation
through the Arctic System Science Data
Coordination Center (see below) and the Antarctic Glaciological
Data Center.
- NSIDC serves as one of eight Distributed Active
Archive Centers funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration
(NASA) to archive
and distribute data from NASA's past and current satellites and
field measurement programs.
- The NSIDC Data
Help Center is intended to help users find data, access data
set tools available for use with specific data sets, and learn
about data formats and product media. The Help Center also provides
access to product-specific FAQs.
The
Arctic System Science (ARCSS) Data Coordination Center at
NSIDC is the permanent data archive for all components of the ARCSS
Program. |

 The
Joint Office for Science Support (JOSS)
at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)
provides scientific, technical, and administrative support for field
research anywhere in the world.
The JOSS Field
Operations and Data Management section, includes web-based tools
and workshops for scientists engaged in research programs. Specific
JOSS data management capabilities include:
- An on-line interactive data catalog archival
and distribution system (CODIAC),
which offers scientists a means to archive data while allowing
others to identify datasets, view selected data and meta-data,
and obtain data via the Internet or other media
- The JOSS on-line
field catalog, which provides participants the ability to submit
in near real-timefield reports, equipment status summaries,
and data products that are valuable for in-field analysis. These
logs can become the permanent record of field activities.
- In addition, JOSS can work with the investigators
to build composite datasets, form new datasets, or provide quality
control processing for selected types of data.

The
Unaami Data Collection, an activity of the SEARCH
Project Office, is an interdisciplinary, diverse collection of
Arctic variables which represent different geographic regions and
data types. Through the Unaami
web site, the user can select data series and view plots and lists,
or download the data sets.
