The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) announces a Call for
Nominations for our 2014 Board of Directors election. Four seats will be
up for election in a vote expected to take place in late August / early
September.

We seek nominations of candidates with enthusiasm and time to dedicate
to ARCUS, who are willing and able to help ARCUS fulfill its vision and
mission and achieve its organizational goals and strategic action items
(included at the end of this solicitation). Additionally, we strive to
generate a board with a diverse set of members in all aspects. As such,
we particularly (but not exclusively) invite nominations of individuals
with fundraising expertise; connections to federal, state (Alaska), and
local (native) agencies; and industry experience.

Primary board member responsibilities include:

  • Actively working to develop broader program, membership, and funding
    support for ARCUS activities;
  • Promoting the interests of ARCUS, its member institutions, and the
    larger Arctic research community;
  • Identifying opportunities for new initiatives and for collaboration in
    the Arctic community in research, dissemination, and education;
  • Advocating for funding to support community initiatives; and
  • Attending regular board teleconferences and at least one in-person
    meeting per year.

Nominations should include the person's name, affiliation, contact
information, area of expertise, short (two-page) curriculum vitae, and a
brief statement on why the person would be an asset to the Board of
Directors. If a candidate has any secondary affiliation with an ARCUS
member institution (http://www.arcus.org/arcus/member-institutions),
please include that information as well. Affiliation with an ARCUS
member institution is an asset, but not required. We request that prior
to submitting a nomination, you first obtain the consent of the nominee.
Self-nominations are welcome.

Nomination submission deadline: Friday, 29 August 2014
